This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed the theories that have been made about language learning. It also discussed the similarities and differences between learning L1 and L2. I learned that Young Learners can really be subdivided into two different groups: ages 5 to 9 and 9 to 13. It is important to know the differences and preferences of those age groups and design activities that are engaging for the group that you are teaching. This unit also did a quick recap on an ESA lesson plan and the different ways you can put one together (straight arrow, patchwork or boomerang) as well reminding me that the important part is to always begin with the Engage phase and end with the Activate phase. It also discussed the roles of the teacher (facilitator, instructor, phsycologist, policeman and counselor). Plus, it gave different ways you can set up your classroom giving pros and cons for each set up whether it be rows, groups, semi-circle and circle. As the facilitator it is important to decide which set up will work best for the lesson that day.
