For example, I should say when it is raining \"I think I've forgotten to close my window!\" Up until now, however, I would have used a past tense to express this sentiment-- \"I think I forgot to close my window!\" Learning about my misuse of the English language is a little dismaying, but I am glad that I know better now and will be able to teach my students grammar accurately.
