This unit involved watching two videos of a teacher giving the same lesson but with different approaches, attitudes and strategies. The first video was an example of an ineffective instructor. Some of the problems from this video include, the fact the teacher is unsmiling and seems unhappy, he does not learn his students names, he makes the students afraid to be wrong as he has already said the lesson is very easy, he does not explain or model what he wants, he seems disinterested, the students work alone rather than with partners, the time for an activity is unclear and their is little feedback after an activity. The second video showed much more effective instruction from a teacher who learned students names, gave clear examples both verbal and visual, smiled and seemed to enjoy being with his students, allowed students to work in pairs, gave clear time expectations for activities, and allowed time for feedback. It was instructive and easy to see how attitude and preparation are keys to running a fun and effective classroom.
