As a first-grade teacher, I am happy to say that may of these techniques are ones I have used frequently in my classroom. I am particularly aware of how students sometimes make mistakes and can easily self-correct when prompted verses if they are making an error - something that needs to be corrected that they may not know/even be aware of. The ESA, EASA, and Patchwork structures are well-designed to get students interested and motivated to work together and learn from each other.I definitely see the advantage of a student book, work book, and teacher resource book. The course book can be used to set the foundation for the course, and a gauge for progress to your goal. To add, or delete to the benefit of the student not only keeps the material geared toward that particular class, but keeps it more unpredictable, and interesting. One has to be careful I believe, adding additional material to the course book, as to keep it pertinent with the overall theme.
