This unit compared authentic (newspapers, travel brochures) material with created material. Authentic material can be very useful and practical, but needs to be chosen carefully to ensure it is not too hard for students. Created material can be geared more to the level of students. Textbooks provide a good framework for language learning, but should be supplemented with created material to keep students interest and meet student language learning needs.Unit 14 deals with course books and lesson materials. It explains the two basic types of materials which are Authentic some of which are( magazines, newspapers, songs poems) and created materials some of which are( crosswords, flashcards, picture stories, gap fill activities).
It also explains the course books, its uses, advantages, disadvantages.
I have learnt that materials used in teaching should differ based on the tasks and the level of the students.
