This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit challenges teachers to become aware about the variety of teaching scenarios they will face. It is focused on the differences in groups, it discusses specific needs for these groups and provides guides and methodologies for successful teaching experiences. There are a couple of lists of DOs and DONTs in reference to teaching business people or young children. There are also suggestions about how to manage the classroom well, how to develop a successful teaching program (like carrying out a Needs Analysis survey) and a few things to consider BEFOR, DURING, and AFTER the course. In this unit i learnt about the receptive skills. First of all, i learnt the difference between receptive and productive skills. Then i read about the readers and listeners skills, and what problems you might find while teaching the receptive skills. I think the most important thing to do as a teacher is to find topics that the students are interested in, by getting to know your students, or by simply asking them what they like. If they are not interested in what you are teaching, they are never going to really engage with the lesson, so they are not going to learn as much as you want.
