This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 13 was a challenging introduction to pronunciation and the phonemic alphabet, neither of which I had studied in depth before. I find pronunciation to be a skill more easily heard then seen or written, however, learning basic ways of communicating intonation with marks or arrows can prove useful in the classroom and in personal study. In trying to read the phonemic alphabet, I can see how it would help students pronounce words in a dictionary, but I would rather teach them to hear the sounds first before trying to read them.I was amazed at the difference in the two lessons. Having the same teacher using two different attitudes was a great example of how to get students to engage in a lesson. Using their names, being positive and energetic and using gestures and being creative made a huge difference. In the second video the teacher smoothly introduced the topic of auxiliary verbs. The students felt comfortable speaking in class because the teacher didn't keep saying no. The engage phase is so important to pull in the participation of the students.
