Differentiating the different present tenses can be difficult at first, but seeing the patterns in the terms used has helped me quite a bit. The pretense or absence of \"have\" or \"to be\" makes it pretty clear which tense is being used. I also liked seeing the various activities that a teacher can use to help students internalize these patterns. For example, having the students leave the room, changing things around and then having the students ask about what has changed seems like a fun classroom activity and a nice way to practice the present perfect tense.
As I was chatting with my international student friends about some of the topics covered in this unit, it was pointed out to me that some of these words combinations are best thought of as a phrase. For example, \"have been\" can be thought as a unit with a specific meaning instead of \"have\" plus \"been\" combining together. Seeing the pair together can help students grasp the pattern and perhaps aid in memorization of the sequence of how these sentences are constructed.
