Unit one teaches us what characteristics a 'good' teacher or student will have when learning English. For example teachers must be motivated, patient, caring and be knowledgeable and so forth.
Teachers must also understand the roles they have and when to use them, for example being an assessor when marking a task or test.Teachers must also be aware what level their students are at, whether they are beginners or advanced students, and be able to set them the appropriate level of tasks or tests.
Learners have many factors which affect their level of motivation or their ability to learn. There are two distinct types of learners mainly adult and young learners. Each have their own motivations for learning for example better grades for young learners or communicating with foreign colleagues for adults.
In conclusion, teachers have the responsibility to be aware of the customs of their students and to provide the appropriate level of learning, while building a good rapport with the class and to prioritize the well being of the class.
