This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the importance of lesson planning and the parts of a lesson plan. As an inexperienced teacher, being prepared will be very important to ensure a smooth flowing lesson. A lesson plan not only contains the learning objective for the lesson, it also notes the materials you will need. This makes it quick and easy to check that you have everything on hand for a lesson before hand. While having a lesson plan is crucial, it should not be inflexible to the needs of the students that may arise during a lesson. Lesson plans should allow for change to meet those needs. Any points of the lesson plan that are not completed can be carried over to another lesson. One of the most difficult things to anticipate for a new teacher is the length of time each activity may require. Inexperience in this area may cause changes in the lesson plan during the lesson itself if an activity requires more time to meet the students' learning goals. Understanding the timing of an activity is knowledge that will be gained with experience.
