It is interesting to approach this content from the perspective of someone who likes to consider himself a successful teacher. Much of the information served as reminders (e.g. that the relationship a teacher has with his/her students is as important—if not more important—than his/her personality or capacity for the material), but some of it was new. For me, the new material was largely in the categorization of language learners—I knew that there were categories, but I did not know what those categories were. And though I know something of the behaviors of different learners with regard to motivation and age, it was intriguing to think about the interplay of learner age and language level and how that might manifest itself in a classroom. As someone who consistently has English language learners in my science classes, through this material, I feel as if I am already able to better understand the behaviors of those students when it comes to the language learning I have attempted to incorporate into my science classes.
