This unit focuses on the different kinds of testing to assess the language ability of students. In this section they also talked about evaluating your class, maybe every week, to determine the progression of your students. I think evaluation in a class is crucial as it helps the teacher gear lessons to the student's areas of need. This section also mentioned the four different kinds of tests and how each one can be used to gather certain information. I learned that diagnostic tests are very similar to placement tests, in that they help evaluate your student’s ability at the beginning of a course, but can be slightly more extensive. This unit closed by discussing the different general external exams and the functions each served. I did not know there were so many standardized testing options and that each can be used for different functions. For example, the Test Of English for International Communication, or TOEIC, is used to assess language skills as they are used for communication at work or in business and not everyday life.
