This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I worked for many years as a Montessori teacher and among other subjects, I taught Spanish to grades 1 thru 8. The tricky part about a Montessori classroom in any subject is that there are always mixed ages learning together. This was less of a challenge in a Montessori class of learners because each student had their own work assignment for each class. When they were done, they were able to self-check it and then show it to me, get me initials on their work list and then move on. I gave group lessons, lasting about 15 minutes during the class time to separate groups, which then moved on to do their assigned work. The students could work together or alone. The only requirement was that the work was shown to the teacher. I know it sounds like utter chaos but in fact, it was not! I much preferred this type of classroom situation to standing in front of the class for 1 hour with the students sitting in chairs all doing the same work. In this type of classroom students were free to sit on the floor, at a desk, or stand and do their work.
