This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit I was able to establish some ground rules for teaching my students. Discipline can be one of the hardest things to deal with in the classroom. I have learned to establish good rapport immediately to set the tone, but at the same time letting the students understand I am in control. I have really enjoyed learning more about teacher talk time. I feel that this can be a big issue with motivation if not balanced correctly. An unmotivated student will never achieve his greatest potential.Course books have been a sore point for me in the past. Some have been terrible. Horribly outdated or simply confused lessons that are all over the place as far as the target language goes. I quickly learned to amend or supplement my lessons with my own materials. I'm always on the lookout for interesting activities and refining my explanations of games and so on. I would say students feedback is very helpful here. If they like certain activities, why not try them again, when appropriate that is.
