This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed the topic of teaching receptive skills. Receptive skills include reading and listening. This unit talked about how to make teaching receptive skills fun and efficient as well as how to formulate an ESA plan to achieve the goals of the lesson. I found this unit incredibly helpful because it really solidified the idea of an ESA plan and how to form it. It also included a lot of information on how texts are read, which, as a native speaker, is not something that occurs to me.I found this unit to be a challenge because I have always spoken English but did not really take the time to understand the components of a sentence. It will be a difficult task for an ESL teacher to attempt to explain these components to students due to their limited understanding of the English language. In my opinions attempts to use games and other creative methods would be an excellent way to get the point across. I will need to review this unit a couple of times to let the material sink in.
