This unit was about pronunciation, considered one of the most neglected aspects of English language teaching. Pronunciation is not just about the sounds of individual words but about the flow of sentences as well. Intonation is the variation in volume and pitch in a sentence, and with intonation the speaker can imply whether the listener should or should not respond, the speaker's mood, and other features of communication. Stress within a sentence can change the entire meaning--in the example given in the unit, the sentence \"He didn't mean to kick that dog\" can change depending just on the word stressed. For instance, if \"he\" is stressed, then it implies that someone else meant to kick the dog. If \"kick\" is stressed, it implies that he meant to do something else to the dog. This unit also covers the basic anatomy and details for how sounds are produced when speaking. This unit was very informative for me, as I have never taught pronunciation and this unit gave me a good starting point for teaching pronunciation in the classroom.
