This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In the previous unit I learned that reading/listening are receptive skill, and in this unit I learned that speaking/writing are productive skills. When people communicate with each other they do it for a purpose, whether you want to say something of if that person is interested in what you have to say. To encourage students to speak, you as a teacher need to create a comfortable atmosphere where the students are not afraid to speak or make mistakes. There are different techniques to encourage interaction, such as pair/group work, controlled and guided practice before fluency activities. Make speaking activities purposeful, allow students time to think about what they want to say. Writing is different from speaking, for example we do not use contracted forms in writing as we do in speaking. Writing can present some problems for the students. They need to understand the layout and punctuation, but by giving them a creative activity it will help them to understand better. There are a lot of games that can be incorporated into a activity.
