Unit One discussed the various roles of a teacher and when to use the roles. The unit also gave information on what makes a good learner, the various levels of a learner, and why students take English classes. From Unit One, I primarily learned the various roles of the teacher. Often, when I think of teaching, I think more about the teacher being a manager or controller, lecturing the entire class period. I was relieved to learn about the other types of teaching styles, as well as when to use them and why they are important. My desire is to be a sensitive, caring teacher who understands the proper time in a class period to use one of the nine major roles discussed in Unit One. Another aspected I learned in reading Unit One is the influence of age in a adult atmosphere as opposed to a younger classroom. The fact that adults having a set view and learning experience can influence the way they desire a teacher to carry out lessons interested me. I also did not realize that adult are more nervous in new learning experiences than children.
