Accuracy and fluency are both important in developing speaking and writing skills. Speaking accuracy activities target correct production of language. Activities include repetition or choral production when speaking and prompting, which are part of the study phase. Speaking fluency activities target effectiveness and flow of language, and focuses on creative language. Fluency activities include role-play, discussions, information gaps and communication games. These are all part of the activate phase. It is always good to provide feedback after every activity. Handwriting, spelling, and punctuation are all important written skills that need to be taught along with creative writing. An ESA writing plan could look like: Engage stage would be to show students pictures from magazines without text so that the students can come up with their own ideas. Study stage would be to group them in pairs to discuss what they want their picture to convey. Activate stage could be to have students fill in missing information and share it with the class.
