This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 12 takes a look at the two productive skills- speaking and writing skills as well as class games. It outlines the reasons why people communicate with one another. It goes further to show different speaking and writing activities.
The unit gives various guidelines for free/creative speaking and writing activities.
At the end of the lesson, some useful class games and where to access them online were listed.
From this unit, I have learnt that speaking and writing skills are meant for communication purposes.
I was also able to understand that the two important part of speaking are accuracy and fluency. While accuracy activities are those teacher-controlled activities that concentrate on producing correct language, fluency activities give students opportunity to experiment creatively with language. I also learnt about various speaking activities such as prompting, drilling, information gap, debates etc.
As a teacher of English, I've learnt how to encourage students to speak/interact during a lesson as well as write effectively.
