This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Building a lesson based on vocabulary, grammar, and function cane difficult especially with beginners. I've seen students who have never been exposed to English learn about basic vocabulary from teachers and how the students can become distracted or bored easily. I notice that time also plays a very big part in engaging the students. I would see the teacher change the rhythm (have multiple games) just to elicit their attention. I can only imagine how much more difficult it would be to apply grammar to young learners. this unit is helpful in giving great ideas for each ESA method.Until this course I was uncertain about the proper categories of tenses. Through unit 6, I now know the difference between past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. When looking at English compared to other languages, such as Mandarin, there seems to be much more flexibility with how the language works. In Mandarin for example, the grammatical structure is concrete and the speaker only needs to say an extra word in order to turn something present to the past. However, English has many forms of past tenses the speaker can apply depending on the situation.
