Teaching the receptive skills section is beneficial because it begins to breakdown the type of skills necessary for language, in this case reading and listening being two out of the four. In addition, the two categories that motivate us including reading and listening for entertainment and for a purpose. This motivation is not something I had thought much about previously but does affect the learning pattern. I believe that receiving information for a purpose may be more difficult because it requires more concentration and the details have more importance, therefore may result in more advancement. The additional skills such as predictive, scanning, skimming, detail and deduction are also important and are things we use everyday in our native languages, although utilizing them in instruction to help teach English lessons or direct practice would have a major benefit. In addition, the topics selected for a lesson should be beneficial for all students over the long term because with improved interest comes increased effort from the students.
