This unit showed through literal visual video, the difference that attitude and specificity can bring to a classroom. we have the same teacher being very effective and not so effective by simply smiling, and explaining objectives in clear terms. The teacher gives more of himself in the second video even getting on the floor to do gestures. He is enthusiastic and comforting to the students so they respond and work with him. The videos really elucidate the power of building a rapport for maintaining student engagement.In this unit I learned how to teach new vocabulary and grammar to a student of varying learning abilities. The lesson displayed the different ESA structures and how they would work for teaching vocabulary and language. I also gained new ideas for teaching a student how to learn the vocabulary in each phase. I learned to use visual aids in the Engage portion, gap fill exercises in the study portion, and activities that get the students moving and communicating during the activate portion of the ESA teaching structure.
