This unit is centered around assessments and evaluations. Teachers need to execute tests to assess students' level of preparations. At the beginning of a course students have to go through a placement test. This is necessary fro teachers to organize classes according to the level of knowledge of the language. Then there is the diagnostic test which helps teachers understand what students know at the beginning of a course. During the course other tests take place, called progress tests. At the end of the course students execute their final tests which can also be external examinations.Unit provided two videos that include two lessons. They differ in an approach of a teacher.
In the first video teacher is not motivating enough and discourages students from speaking up. Students looked confused and bored. Teacher did not care about the learning of the students.
The second lesson was more effective. Teacher was encouraging and motivating, therefore students responded. Lesson was organized and instructions were clear. He used positive reinforcement and students felt comfortable. He also tried to include everyone in the class and made the effort to memorize their names.
