This lesson brings up a topic that I have been wondering about. Here in Senegal in the public school system the students to not have textbooks, but will instead copy down notes from the teacher. I've been wondering how to provide solid information without a textbook as it seems that they are too expensive for the average student to buy. It is good to see that there are other options out there. I might want to buy a textbook or two and copy pages out for the students to have, but not expect them to buy the whole book.As intoned by the paragraph leading into this unit, it is very difficult to know the complete grammar to English without deep study and awareness of the composition of sentences. We as native speakers put little effort into grammar, and just use our years of experience to construct sentences. Very few of us native English speakers could actually break down a sentence appropriately. As a teacher, I have become a student of grammar. I am immensely grateful for this chance and ability to really study my L1 language!
