Adults are said to learn different than post puberty, pre-puberty and very young learners. A teacher should be well aware of each of these age groups as adults usually learns a new language for their self-interest. Adults are usually quiet motivated to learn a new language but may face nervousness thus a teacher should gently encourage the student and help him/her to build confidence. On the other hand, very young learners can absorb a new language faster however, their attention spans are significantly shorter. Therefore, teaching a new language using fun approaches such as singing and dancing, drawing and games will draw their attention to it.
A teacher should be aware that he/she is not the main person in the classroom. The teacher should be able to delegate between the time he/she will teach. Giving time to students to complete a group activity is also important as well as encouraging them or individual student to complete a task. Therefore, a teacher should possess these characteristics: enthusiastic, sensitive, motivating and caring.
