Unit 9 Overview
We all want to be effective, successful teachers. Lesson planning is the heart of being such a teacher. There are several reasons why a planned lesson is better. One of them is that having a lesson plan helps us maintain focus, and lesson objectives. With a classroom full of children, with their short attention spans, and their natural desire to disrupt anything and everything, it is very easy for a lesson to be redirected or derailed completely, and the best way to steer the lesson back on course, is to have that lesson plan with us. Second reason is that planning serves as record, or as job history. It can be used again, in whole or in part, in other lessons in the future. In other words, lesson planning can save time later. Finally, lesson plans can document for administrators the instruction that is occurring. Also, it’s a good teaching portfolio for showing to parents what we do with our time in the classroom. It gives confidence that the class time is used productively and their kids can benefit from it.
