In this final unit, there was discussion of cultural issues that should be considered when teaching abroad, ways of searching for and applying for employment, and various methods of professional development. The unit stressed the importance of finding out as much as possible about the destination country, using appropriate actions and greetings, not expressing political or religious views and not gossiping or using sarcasm. The unit explained methods of finding work, for example, through web or print advertising, or by travelling to the country and searching for work there. It may be helpful if you already know someone there, or if you know the main recruitment periods for that country. The unit then detailed some recommendations for writing a CV and covering letter, including a suggested layout, the inclusion of personal details, and relevant work and academic history. Finally, the unit suggested some further courses of study for those looking to pursue management positions or enhance their teaching skills, including the TEFL diploma course.
