This unit covered various evaluation and testing methods. These can be categorized into tutorials, evaluation by the students, and tests.
The main focus of the unit was tests, which was broken down into 6 types. Placement tests enable teachers to gauge student language ability in order to place him/her in the correct class. Progress tests are used to gauge what language has been acquired and remembered and what language has been forgotten. Diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests, but often more extensive. They are given at the beginning of the course, in contrast to placement tests, which are given before a course. Practice tests usually follow the format of an external examination which the students are preparing for. Some external examinations are: TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC. Cambridge Assessment is, \"the non-teaching department of the University of Cambridge responsible for a borad range of assessments.\" Categories included are: general English (KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE), skills for life, and business English (BEC, BULATS).
