This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In unit 20 I learned about teaching first lessons, different levels, large classes and a few common problems that may appear in a classroom. The first lesson should be used to establish rapport between the teacher and the students. It sets the tone for the rest of the course. After establishing rapport the teacher needs to assess the English level of the class and the students' aspirations with English. A few warmers are introduced in the unit, such as hangman and pictionary. Further the teacher needs to consider level differences between the students and the classroom size. The Unit is about lesson planning and the importance of it to a teacher. The unit outlines the reasons why a lesson should be planned, that planning a lesson serves as a record, and aid to the teacher as well as a reference document to which the teacher could refer to during the lesson. I have learnt that a lesson plan helps you to note down what leaner objectives you are hoping for after the lesson, it also gives a structure and serves as guidance as well as well as it helps you to manage your and allocate a specified time for each task which you have planned for the lesson.
