There are significant functions in writing out lesson plans. It is an aid to planning by recording expectations and methods to achieve those expectations. It is a working document that guides you to stay on track and a reference during lessons yet staying flexible and responsive to the needs in class. Finally, it is also a record as its keeps a history of what materials and lessons have been used.
There are no rules to writing out a lesson plan but foundational principles are to keep it simple, scripting is unnecessary, consistency in structure, timeline, balance of skills, and flexibility and adaptability. Organization is also key in class such as making sure all equipments and papers and mentality is ready to go, arrangement and accessibility of the classroom are ready such as seating arrangements and board.
In the lesson plan, there should include learner objectives, personal aims, language points, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedures, phases, timing, interactions, class level, number of students, the date and time, and names.
