Unit I discusses the qualities of a good teacher and a good learner. The qualities of a good teacher include personality factors, such as kindness and energy, as well as the relationship between teacher and students, such as ability to impart knowledge of subject matter, involving students in the lessons, and ability to correct students without offending them. I found that I wanted to expand on the role of the teacher as organizer, in that I wanted the description to also include the importance of being able to organize a topic in such a way that students could best make sense of it.
It was useful for me to be reminded of the motivation and behavior \"traits\" of various age levels, and that adult learners could have different expectations of teacher behaviors than young learners have. Most importantly, perhaps, I was reminded of what I have always considered a good teacher to be: a life-long learner who is always eager to learn more about her subject as well as learn new and engaging ways to involve her students in their own learning.
