This unit deals with teaching special groups, and it is divided into teaching beginners, teaching individual students, teaching children, and teachiong business English (or English for specific purposes). Teaching beginners can be divided into: the absolute beginner, the false beginner, the adult beginner, the young beginner, and the beginner without Roman alphabet. When teaching beginners teachers should be aware of the students' needs, have clear and realistic aims, be as visual as possible, etc.
There may be many advantages when teaching individual classes, or one on one classes, for exmaple: no mixed levels, students are highly motivated, needs can be clearly defined, etc. The disadvantages can be that many activities cannot be carried out with only one student.
When teaching children teachers should be aware of the following: slower pronunciation, use of higher pitch and exaggerated intonation, lots of repetition, positive responses or encouragement, etc.
When teaching business classes can be one-to-one, in-company group, or in-school group. Teachers should bear in mind that the studnets may be tired and not so motivated, the age range may differ greatly, the studnets level of english may also vary greatly. Teachers should have to make materials and classes less challenging.
