This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 gives hope to all those who think that they need to have an extremely extroverted personality to engage and teach students. While this may help, everyone can learn how to teach using their own style and personality traits. It's interesting to read that different class layouts suit different activities and class sizes. Teacher gestures, voice level and eye contact are all extremely useful when engaging and disciplining classes. It's important too, to establish a rapport with the class from the start and set good examples such as being punctual and not losing your temper if a student misbehaves. Also, I think it's important to work out why a student is attending the class - if they are attending because they are obliged to, problem behaviour may result. Learning each student's name is also critical - shows a level of interest in the student.
