To create an ideal lesson plan, the teacher must know the balance between teacher-led activities and student-led activities. The plan must be clear and simple but have structure; too much structure makes for a rigid, teacher-centered class; too little structure makes for a loose, student centered class. The ideal lesson plan keeps the teacher in control but allows students to have fun while not feeling pressured to succeed. The best learning occurs when the students don't know that they're learning and, rather, having fun.
Writing down a tangible lesson plan serves as 1) an aid to planning by mentioning desired achievements of the lesson, 2) a working document by being able to reference the plan during class, and 3) a record by being able to complete tasks and record the outcome and materials used.
