I was particularly anxious to study this unit. For years I have had somewhat of an ignorance on the definitions of the ?tenses,? so learning the meaning behind Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect, and Present Perfect Continuous (progressive) was a treat. While my knowledge of the terms lacked, I had a natural understanding of what they were, but could never explain it to anyone, especially a non-native speaker of English. However, now that I know exactly how, for example, a Present Perfect sentence ?relates the past to the present,? and a Present Perfect Continuous sentence ?communicates an incomplete and ongoing activity? or ?describes a recently finished, uninterrupted activity [with] a present result,? I can explain it to a foreign language learner in a way that is both clear and concise for both of us!
