This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit has given me various idea about how to incorporate different ESA methods to teach vocabulary and grammar. To teach grammatical structure, I feel like the patchwork pattern might be more effective, as it is complex. Students might require more study time in order to fully comprehend the context in which to use certain words. Often their native language will use a completely different structure to express the same idea. Understanding nuance, like how spoken English can vary from written language can be difficult to teach with only one study stage. It might take more time for the students to comprehend. Studying texts seems like a useful and more interesting way to to do the study phase than drilling. Often with drilling, I find that students memorise as oppose to learn. I enjoy using debates as an activate activity, as it can be more lively than story building. Students can often feel very passionate and involved depending on the subject.
