The importance of finding a balance between productive and receptive skills is something that I started to become aware of early on in my language learning journey, and I feel that receptive skills are much more easily developed than productive ones from my experience. While this may have been the case for me, it is important for teachers of foreign languages to elicit constructive practice of productive skills whilst providing their students appropriate materials to listen to and read. This unit gave me better insight on how to choose what kind of texts and recordings you should present your students at the various stages of their language learning process. It also stressed the importance of how much you should explain prior to having them read a passage or listen to an interview so that they are able to understand the main idea of the content but are still required to figure things out from context.
