This unit covers the effectiveness of teaching an ESL lesson in the classroom. It includes two videos: the first in which the teacher is less effective, and the second in which the teacher is more effective. I have learned that student participation and comprehension is far more successful when the teacher has a positive attitude and knows their students? names. Additionally, lessons are more effective when the teacher engages students with activities that are based in their existing knowledge, are clearly explained, are fun, and that include activities and student participation that allows students to use the English language as much as possible. Lastly, lessons are more effective when positive feedback is used, including clarification, pronunciation drills, and praise.
