This unit looks at different ways of evaluating student's levels and progress. The unit describes three ways to assess a student's language level: tutorials, evaluation by students and tests. Tutorials can take place with the hole group or with individual students and is useful when conducted at the las ten munites at the end of the week for reviewing the work done. Evaluation by the stdents,as far as it is concerned,can be very useful to ask the student to evaluate their course,but not the personalities of the teacher by means of a questionnaire or guided discussion. Talking about test, teachers should be aware that there is variety of tests and that each of them should be conducted at the appropriate time and in a specific context. Among them are placement tests, diagnostic tests progress tests, practice tests. Teachers should also be aware of the existance of external tests and assessments that are generally conducted by external organisations. General external examinations for example inclucde TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC while Cambridge assessments include tests like KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, and certificates in ESOL Skills for Life.
