This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed using and selecting course materials. There are two types of materials: authentic materials and created materials. Authentic materials are things created for and used by native speakers like newspaper articles and recordings of TV shows. Created materials are created with the EFL student in mind, and are therefore targeted at the their language level. This unit also discussed ways to use course books like omitting or replacing sections that are not useful, as well as supplementing and adapting sections of the book to make them more relevant or engaging for the students.Unit 18 was a dense chapter that covered the last of the grammar that will be taught in this course. The unit covered, Phrasal Verbs, Modal Verbs, Passive Voice, ad relative clauses. Modal verbs are very interesting and the way they express emotion and formality is indispensable to the English Language. Passive voice is also very interesting, as are Relative Clauses and Phrasal Verbs. As complex as these ideas are this chapter completes a rather basic overview of English grammar and how to teach it. A more in-depth understanding is gained through experience teaching and additional study.
