There are many facets of the language that it is important to teach. This will stretch across all age groups and language levels. It is very important to know what is suitable and appropriate within the ESA structure to use for each one. What is good for language structure won't always be good for grammar or vocabulary. We as teaching professionals need to know how to gear out lessons to the goal that we have in mind for the particular class. Having a lesson plan is crucial to this as it will give a logical sequence from which to work within the ESA format either Arrow, Boomerang or Patchwork.This unit was a solid means to get teachers thinking about teaching for reading and listening comprehension. The sections on selection of reading materials is quite helpful as it gets you thinking more than usual about what sorts of texts are appropriate and which ones are not for specific sets of students. The sample lesson also provides a few excellent activities to try out with a class. These sample lessons really are some of the most enlightening of the course, as technique and theory go quite far, but knowing how to put it all into practice is a skill that many teachers can struggle with.
