Throughout my college life I have worked with foreign exchange students on their English skills. There is far more to teaching English than just lecturing, listening and adapting to the learning environment is critical as we see in the first demonstration. Three of the biggest problems in the first demonstration was the teacher's lack of preparation, self-presentation, smiling, and sensitivity to the class (minding the speed of his tone). The second demonstation was a clear improvement, but still somewhat flawed. I realize there were cuts in the filming, but the worksheets could have been briefed a little more to the students. The imaginary animal device was an odd transition from the animal discussion, but the teacher's creative use seemed to apply the effectiveness it served. Most importantly, the second demonstration really brings out the leadership, reward and privilege to teaching English to another culture.
