Speaking and writing are two equally valuable skills for students to learn as they embark upon their new language journey. They are known as the productive skills, and their importance was discussed in this unit. It was noted that fluency and accuracy of a language are two different skill sets, and need to be evaluated in different settings in order to gauge the level of mastery a student has with the language. The drill activity is useful for determining accuracy as it is teacher-oriented, and helps the student gain confidence in knowing that they are using words correctly. Other exercises such as fill gap can be useful to gauge overall fluency.
