This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 11 took a detailed look at the process of teaching English. Learning a new language is broken down into two main skill sets with two sub-category's each. The main skill sets are entitle Receptive Skills and Productive Skills. Receptive Skills are those we absorb in a passive manner such as Reading and Listening. Productive Skills are those with a more obvious display of knowledge and are Writing and Speaking. Students usually have more vocabulary knowledge and understanding of a language in the receptive skills category than in the Productive skills set. However, the receptive skills are often more difficult to teach to students as evidence of their comprehension is more difficult to asses.
