Unit 15, Testing and Evaluating Students, deals with various levels and types of testing. When an individual decides to learn another language (in this case English), it is critical for both the student and the school to place the student at the correct level through a placement test. If a student who should be in level four is placed in level two, he/she will find it too simple and will be bored. Conversely, if a student is placed at a level that far exceeds his/her level, he/she will be not be able to keep up and will become discouraged. At various times during the course, it is important, again for the teacher/institution as well as for the student to conduct progress tests to see what the student has retained and where more attention is needed. If the student is planning to take some type of external qualification exam after the course, it is necessary to administer practice tests in order to prepare for the external exam. Overall the unit was interesting and informative.
