Unit 20 on Troubleshooting highlighted how to handle some of the most common problem situations a teacher can come across in class. The most common problems are first lesson jitters, unengaged students from lack of warmup, different levels of students, having large classes, the use of students? native language, reluctant students, and difficulty with listening texts. There were many helpful suggestions such as encouraging pair/group work amongst students to create a safer and more open atmosphere for students. For me, I expect there to be a lot of difficulty with understanding listening texts as this was something I had previously struggled with when learning a foreign language. My suggestion would be that practice makes perfect and that students devote more time in their day to listening to English ? whether it be their favorite shows or music.
