Unit 12 explains the other two skills: speaking and writing, which includes games. These skills are also known as productive skills. They are called so for the language learners create outputs in the way of verbal or written communication. Though speaking and writing skills are lumped into one category, they have their differences, like degrees of formality in communication and the differences between the first language and the second language of the learner. For instance, words in writing have to be spelled out while words in speaking can be contracted. There are two areas being assessed as well, accuracy and fluency; and the phases of study they should be monitored in are pointed out. Communication barriers and how to overcome them are listed. Sample lesson plans are also included and games that can be incorporated to it for a more fun learning experience for the teacher and students.
