This unit focused on the receptive skills of language learning which are listening and reading. People listen to and read a language for either pleasure or for a purpose (for a specific aim or goal). Some important skills for these receptive skills include: detailed listening/reading, scanning, skimming, predictive reading, and deduction. When preparing a reading or listening lesson you need to be careful to choose a topic of interest to your students, generate interest in the topic with an engage activity, and consider what vocabulary or grammatical structures may need to be pre-taught before the listening or reading activity.
