This Unit, on Teaching Special Groups, covers the five major classes of students the teacher is likely to encounter. The groups are: beginners; individuals (one-on-one teaching); young learners (up to 16 years of age); business English groups; and monolingual vs. multilingual classes. Beginners can be sub-divided into five sub-groups, such as absolute beginners and \"false\" beginners, etc. Do's and dont's for each of the groups is given. For instance, with beginners it is important to \"keep it simple\" and visual, to speak slowly and be patient. Problems faced by business English students, such as tiredness, are covered. Students in multi-lingual groups can provide advantages for the teacher in that English only can be used in the classroom.
